Arrival and departure from the airport: INTERNATIONAL airport of SIEM REAP, this program can follow the stay of three to six days you have chosen to visit the sites of ANGKOR. It is an extension of 10 days during which you will visit the capital, PHNOM PENH, as well as the main cities around the great Lake TONLE SAP. You will discover the daily life of the country, as well as the landscapes of the South coast, on the Gulf of Thailand.

Day 1: SIEM REAP – SAMBOR IPSP KUK – PHNOM PENH

Morning: departure drive to PHNOM PENH (320 km and 5 hours by car on the direct route). You leave the main road in KAMPONG THOM, for about 30 km, to visit the temples of SAMBOR IPSP KUK (7th century). In the forest and in the center of the ancient capital of the Kingdom, you will find three groups of small temples: Prasat Sambor, Prasat Tao and Prasat Yai Nena. Afternoon: Continue to PHNOM PENH and transfer to the hotel.

Jour 2 : PHNOM PENH

Morning: Visit the Palace ROYAL (1866) and the silver pagoda (1892), whose name is due to its ground covered by nearly 6000 flat silver. All around the pagoda, you read the legend of RAMAYANA in a long series of murals painted on the walls. Then visit the archaeological museum, built in 1917, which has large collections of artifacts of the lie and Angkorian period.

Afternoon: Tour of downtown with the visit of the pagodas VAT PHNOM, on a small hill and shopping in the CENTRAL market, built in the 1930s in a style typical Art deco.

 

Day 3 : PHNOM PENH – KEP

Morning: Departure towards TAKEO, at about 80 km in the south of PHNOM PENH and 1h30 drive.
On the road, you will visit the TONLE BATI and TA PHROM temples (12th century) and then the PHNOM CHISOR temple (10th century) after climbing a 503 steps staircase.

Afternoon: You will leave TAKEO for a 3 hours boat trip on the channels (dating from the FUNAN era, 4th and 5th centuries) which lead to the ruins and the small Museum of ANGKOR BOREI, through the rice fields and the ducks’ farms.
Your last stopover will be for the island of PHNOM DA temple (7th century).
Back to TAKEO, you will continue the road towards KEP by car (80 km and 2 hours drive). Arrival in KEP and installation at the hotel.

Day 4 : KEP – SIHANOUKVILLE (125 km and 3 hours direct drive)

Morning: Departure to visit the caves of KOMPONG TRACH. It is a worship and meditation place, since the pre-angkorian time, in which one enters through a short natural tunnel, to arrive in a splendid rock circus with open sky where lays an immense sleeping Buddha.
Before arriving at KAMPOT, you will deviate from the road for ten km track to visit the PHNOM CHHNORK caves. A comfortable staircase of 200 steps gives access to the main cave which shelters a small pre-angkorian temple. It is built around the conjugation of a stalactite and a stalagmite of impressive size.

Afternoon: Continuation towards SIHANOUKVILLE (also called Kampong Som) which is divided by several hills, between the most important commercial harbor of Cambodia in the East and the beautiful tropical seaside resort in the South, with its hotels and long beaches of white sand and clear water.
Installation at the hotel.

Day 5 : SIHANOUKVILLE

Day: Departure by car to the REAM NATIONAL PARK. Then, it is a full day excursion by boat to visit the mangrove forest and the birds’ sanctuary, with lunching picnic on the beach.

Day 6 : SIHANOUKVILLE – PHNOM PENH

Morning: Departure towards PHNOM PENH through villages, forests, plains and hills. Installation at the hotel.

Afternoon: Visit of the RUSSIAN MARKET for souvenirs’ shopping and to see another part, rather more crowded, of the town.
At the end of the afternoon, you will enjoy a boat trip from the TONLE SAP River to the MEKONG River to watch the sunset over the town, the floating village and the fishing boats.

Day 7 : PHNOM PENH – BATTAMBANG (300 km and 6 hours direct drive)

Morning: Departure by car towards OUDONG, the former capital of the Kingdom (40 km in the north of Phnom Penh). When arriving at the top of the 419 steps of the easiest stone staircase to climb, among the four which give access the top of the hills, you will have a panoramic view of the landscape around. Then you will visit the enormous stupas built between 1623 and 2002, the Chinese temple of PREAH ATARAS (17th century) and the Cham temple, which crown the hill.
Continuation towards the small fishing port of KAMPONG TRALACH on Tonlé Sap River to visit an old pagoda (17th century) very nicely decorated with frescos. Then, way to KAMPONG CHNANG.

Afternoon: From KAMPONG CHNANG, departure to the small village of ONDOUNG ROSSEY, to visit an artisanal pottery and a palm trees exploitation to learn more about the palm’s sugar and alcohol manufacturing.
Continuation towards PURSAT, where you will have a look at the marble sculptors’ work.
Arrival in BATTAMBANG and installation at the hotel.

Day 8 : BATTAMBANG

Morning: Departure to visit the VAT EK Khmer temple (11th century and 10 km in the North of the city) and of the current pagoda. While driving through small villages along the Sanke River, you will see the various daily activities of the inhabitants.

Afternoon: Visit of the old pagodas and of the Museum (if opening day) downtown, or, and if the bumpy and rough track allows it that day, departure to visit the Khmer temple of VAT PHNOM BANOM (7th century). It is at about 25 km in the South of the city and at the top of 337 steps of a straight stone staircase which climbs onto the hill.

Day 9 : BATTAMBANG – SIEM REAP

Morning: Departure by car towards SIEM REAP (190 km and 5 hours drive) via SISOPHON. Arrival in SIEM REAP and hotel facility. Afternoon: You will visit the new ANGKOR NATIONAL MUSEUM, inaugurated at the end of 2007′ within a very successful framework, which presents a very interesting synthesis of the visits which will you have made during your stay. Then, you will have your last shopping opportunities at the OLD MARKET, later on, at the NIGHT MARKET (opening at 6 pm).

Day 10: SIEM REAP According to the boarding time:

Morning: Departure by car to visit the SILK WEAVING CENTER where you will learn more about the culture of the mulberry tree, the farming of silkworms and the manufacturing of silk threads. Afternoon: Transfer to SIEM REAP International Airport. Have a nice trip with MERU TOUR!
